Tata Consultancy Services - Certifying Authority announced today the implementation of their managed PKI Services at Central Depository Services (India) Ltd. (CDSL).
With this launch, CDSL has joined the TCS-CA Trust Network for operating as a Registration Authority (RA) for TCS-CA.
Recognizing the needs of investors, CDSL has introduced the second phase of their Internet-enabled service, easiest (electronic access to securities information and execution of secured transactions), which will enable the clients in managing their securities and issuing delivery instructions.
This will obviate the need of visiting the DP offices to give instruction slips. The first phase of CDSL's Internet service - easi was launched in April 2002. easi enables clients to have secure access to online information in respect of their holdings in the demat account and information in respect of transactions.
"The managed PKI solution is yielding good results and is a success already. We have recently implemented this solution for BSE", said Dr. Vidyasagar- executive vice president in charge of advanced technology at Tata Consultancy Services.
To counter the security risks related to online transactions, TCS-CA provided their SDK FormSigner for PKI-enabling the easiest service. FormSigner is designed to work with web-based applications to facilitate digital signing and verification of online forms. Its client component integrates with web-browsers to provide an interface for digitally signing information in online forms. Its server component validates the identity of the signer and ensures that information submitted through online forms is secure.
As an RA, CDSL will control the process of authentication and verifying all the subscribers and advice TCS-CA to issue digital certificates to them. Through its managed PKI Services offering, TCS-CA will provide CDSL access to its technical and security infrastructure for issuing and managing Digital Certificates. CDSL will take care of the verification process of clients before clearing them for Digital Certificate issuance. The actual issuance and management of digital certificates is handled by TCS-CA.
The PKI-enabled solution is expected to lead to various advantages for CDSL and its clients like transparency and accountability.
