The eSecurity Group of Tata Consultancy Services and its Certifying Authority have been mandated the task to provide a secure digital infrastructure, including the facility for digital signatures, for the Bombay Stock Exchange as also the Central Depository Services (India) Ltd.,and National Securities and Depositories Ltd.

The Executive Vice-President of TCS and Head of Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) located here, Dr M.Vidyasagar, recently said on the sidelines of a press conference that the centre would provide a whole range of services from PKI (public key infrastructure) consulting to providing managed PKI services and also creation of a Registering Authority. With this BSE will have an extremely safe and robust digital environment in its interface with external agents as also within the exchange.

The TCS is in the process of implementing these solutions for the BSE, the country's largest bourse, and the Central Depository Services (India) Ltd, Mumbai. The entire gamut from managed PKI to FormSigner and FileSigner along with other products will be provided under this project.

For NSDL, the share depository, has established a facility for online trading and these solutions support its users. TCS has developed and deployed Speed-e, a PKI enabled solution to enable common investors, clearing members and depository participants to access NSDL's database through satellite links, while ensuring that its system remains foolproof.

The TCS' eSecurity consultants designed and implemented a secure architecture for NSDL's private network thereby implementing its entire PKI and the Speed-e application. With Speed-e NSDL provides Internet-based services to their depository participants for transmitting time critical and secure instructions to make transaction through the Internet.

With this facility, a demat holder wanting to operate his account through the Internet on Speed-e based facility first registers himself by submitting a registration request. Thereafter, he can use this electronic facility and issue delivery instructions and also bypass the need to submit instructions in the hard copy format. The TCS-CA has provided digital signatures services to the depository participants, clearing members and some users of NSDL, Dr Vidyasagar said.

The eSecurity Group in the Advanced Technology Centre at Hyderabad, addresses research and development work in the areas related to secure administration, encryption and PKI technology. It has designed a PKI suite - Tata-Dhruvam that facilitates issue of digital signatures and other aspects of secure transactions. The TCS has also developed similar PKI based infrastructure that is capable of providing digital signatures and certification facility for several export processing zones including Visakhapatnam EPZ, Kandla SEZ, Cochin SEZ, Falta SEZ, Kokata and at the Noida SEZ.
