TCS-CA to tie up with Apollo arm
The Hindu Business Line (27/06/2003)

TATA Consultancy Services — Certifying Authority has announced it will launch its managed PKI (public key infrastructure) services at Apollo Sindoori Capital Investments Ltd (ASCIL), a stock-broking arm of the Apollo Hospitals.

With this Apollo Sindoori will become a part of the TCS-CA trust network and act as a Registration Authority to TCS-CA.

TCS-CA offers a Web-based Managed-PKI solution that provides legal sanctity, flexibility and scalability. A registration authority exclusively manages and controls the issuing process of digital certificates and authenticates and verifies all the subscribers and advices TCS-CA to issue digital certificates to them. Apollo Sindoori will be able to issue digital certificates to all its clients, according to a TCS communiqué.

A corporate member of the National Stock Exchange and depository participant of the National Securities Depository Ltd, Apollo Sindoori has a centralized base of operations at Chennai and has a presence at over 100 locations throughout the country with a client base of 20,000. All branches of Apollo Sindoori are connected to the headquarters at Chennai through V-Sat.

Apollo Sindhoori provides communication channels like e-mail and chat through their own mail server. Certain other advanced features are also being introduced for the first time in India. TCS-CA will PKI-enable the Apollo Sindoori system to integrate digital certificate technology into it. This will ensure that ASCIL and its clients can exchange business and confidential information securely over e-mail

As a normal e-mail travels over the Internet without security, it is possible that unauthorized people may read it or even tamper with its content. The PKI-enabling of the system allows the organization to manage the risks involved with online communication by providing authentication and non-repudiation to the e-mail system.

While information and documents sent electronically do not have legal protection, a digitally signed message ensures security of the information from tampering, authenticates the senders and provides proof of delivery.
