Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Tuesday has announced the launch of PKI (public key infrastructure) solution for the Kandla Special Economic Zone (KASEZ). With this, KASEZ has become a part of Tata Consultancy Services Certifying Authority (TCS-CA) trust network and will be acting as a Registration Authority (RA) to TCS-CA. TCS-CA also has provided similar facilities at the special economic zones at Visakhapatnam, Noida, Kochi and Falta in this network.
TCS-CA's managed PKI is a Web-based solution that provides legal sanctity, flexibility and scalability. An RA exclusively manages and controls the issuing process of digital certificates. As an RA, KASEZ will be facilitating the issue of digital certificates to all its SEZs and export-oriented units (EOUs.)
Dr M. Vidyasagar, Executive Vice-President of TCS and head of the Advanced Technology Centre, Hyderabad said TCS-CA was proud of the certifying authority product and service, as the entire technology and software were developed in-house. "We are the only organization in the world that is both a vendor of digital certificates as well as a vendor of a PKI suite. Thus the client has the choice of either buying the software to become a certifying authority or become a RA by taking our services," he said.
Mr Yogendra Garg, Joint Development Commissioner of KASEZ, was issued the RA certificates for managing digital certificate requirement of KASEZ's EOUs and SEZ units. The Kandla SEZ was the first SEZ to be set up in Asia. It is the country largest multi-product SEZ. A SEZ is treated as a foreign territory within the country for the purposes of trade and custom duties. The zone is run directly by the Union Government.
Mr Garg said, "This is a major move towards hassle-free electronic transactions that are completely secure. I am extremely happy to have this technology from TCS, which has also launched this in five out of the seven SEZs in the country." TCS offers an entire gamut of PKI-related products, solutions and services ranging from digital signature services, PKI consulting, CA hosting to PKI enabling of applications. TCS is a licensed certifying authority and is authorized by the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA), Government of India, to issue legally valid digital certificates.
