Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), today launched managed PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) and Digital Signature Services for Vishakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) for ensuring the highest-degree of accountability in electronic transactions.
At a function held at the TCS Hyderabad centre today, K Ratna Prabha, the development commissioner of VSEZ, and her staff were issued the Registration Authority (RA) certificates for managing digital certificate requirements of their export-oriented units and SEZ units.
Ratna Prabha said on the occasion that, “we are very happy to have this technology from TCS, which they implemented within two weeks. This is a landmark event for us as this is the first time that a government body would be deploying this technology. It will not only increase the speed of our reaction time but also minimize the need for direct customer-employee interaction.”
TCS offers a web-based, user-friendly managed PKI solution that is easy to deploy and provides legal sanctity, flexibility and scalability. An RA is a member of the TCS-CA managed PKI trust network, where it exclusively manages and controls the issuing of digital certificates.
The onus authenticating all the certificate holders lies with the RA. VSEZ-RA will be issuing digital certificates to all their EOU and SEZ units.
The TCS-CA had earlier conducted a two-day training session for the EOUs and SEZs on the usage of digital certificates and the PKI technology that has emerged as the de facto global standard in e-security.
VSEZ's two applications substantially cut down time and costs of correspondence, phone calls and personal visits to the zone. Now, adopting TCS's digital signature will guarantee that the applications also ensure secure online communications for all the parties.

TCS is a licensed certifying authority (CA) and is authorized by the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA), Government of India, to issue legally valid digital certificates, according to a press statement here.
